Speeding BMW car crushes two people

Zirakpur, Feb 12 (IANS) Two people were killed and another person was seriously injured after a speeding BMW car hit an autorickshaw in which they were travelling on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway in Punjab early Saturday, police said. The accident took place near Singhpura village. The car driver fled, abandoning the vehicle which has been seized, police said.

The deceased were identified as Shyam Lal, 30, driver of the autorickshaw, and Shekhar, 32 - both residents of Chandigarh. Dashrath Rishi, who was injured, was admitted to a hospital in Chandigarh, police said.

“We have impounded the BMW car, with registration number CH03Y-5005, and registered a case against an unknown driver. The car belonged to Punjab-based mushroom company Agro Dutch,” said Yogi Raj, investigation officer, at this satellite town of Chandigarh.

“The impact of the collision was so severe that the autorickshaw was absolutely battered. We found three beer bottles from the car. Our investigation is on and we are trying to ascertain the identity of the driver,” he said.
