New Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS) Students from a number of South Asian countries living in Delhi came together at the Delhi University Monday to celebrate the South Asian Women’s Day.
The celebrations saw cultural programmes by students from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Tibetan community.

Amrita, one of the organisers of the programme, said: “On this day we would like to pay tribute to the victims of terrorism in Pakistan, the internally displaced persons in Sri Lanka, India and Burma and to the anonymous victims of armed violence.”

“The celebrations also mark the achievements of women’s groups across South Asia and hail their ongoing struggles against all forms of violence. This year the focus of the South Asia Women’s Day is demand for a borderless South Asia,” she added.

The event also saw films being screened on the life and work of rights activists like Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar.
