South African, woman arrested for drug peddling

New Delhi, Jan 8 (IANS) A South African and a mother of three were arrested in two separate cases of drug peddling and drugs worth around Rs. 50 lakh recovered, police said Sunday.Kelly Williams Mbane, 36 was arrested Saturday from south Delhi and 40 grams of cocaine worth Rs. 40 lakh was recovered from him.

“We got a tip-off that the accused would be delivering drugs to his client in Chirag Delhi. We laid a trap and arrested him,” a police officer said.

“Mbane arrived in Mumbai in July 2001 and came in contact with a cocaine supplier and decided to become a supplier himself,” the officer added.

According to police, Mbane reached Delhi last September and started supplying drugs to high profile clients and rave parties along with his friend, Nabeka James.

In the second incident, a 35-year-old mother of three was arrested Wednesday for drug peddling and smack worth Rs. 7.8 lakh was recovered from her.

Geetanjali, resident of Budh Vihar-II in north Delhi, became a drug supplier due to financial constraints. She was arrested following a tip-off and 78 grams of smack was recovered from her.

“The accused had studied till class 12. Her father was a drug addict and had died last year. To make ends meet she entered the business and was supplying drugs for the last 20 days,” said a police officer.
