Dec. 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Yesterday, at around 4.00 PM PST, the residents of San Diego could feel the ground moving underneath their feat and also heard a very loud, booming sound. This led to the citizens suspecting that they were being hit by another earthquake. However, the USGS or the United States Geological Survey started to look into the matter pretty soon and concluded that the ground-shaking and the thunderous noise was not caused by an earthquake. The workers of the Geological department worked for hours and said that the noise was actually a result of a ’sonic boom’.
The frightened citizens were even evacuated out of their buildings as a precautionary measure, and calls to 911 were placed. As is the normal case these days, the people turned to Twitter to share their news.
Robert Dollar, a seismologist with the US Geological Survey talked to the media and reported that most apparently, the whole disruption had been caused by a ‘high speed air craft’. Just off the San Diego coast lies a military area for the training of aircraft personnel. It is also believed that the ‘atmospheric conditions’ were such that, the ’sound was amplified’. It was not long ago, that on April 4th 2006, the same county of San Diego had undergone a similar happening when such a sonic boom had been mistaken for an earthquake, resulting in panic. However, the last actual earthquake to hit San Diego citizens was on 4th of December, which measured 3.6 on the Richter scale. Along with San Diego, places like Laguna Beach, San Clemente and Anaheim also felt the tremors, but no destruction/death were caused.
