Sonia’s Delhi rally cancelled after blasts

Sonia GandhiNew Delhi, Sep 14 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s rally at the Ramlila Maidan here Wednesday has been cancelled following the Saturday evening blasts.The party Sunday decided to cancel the rally at which Gandhi was to distribute provisional certificates to unauthorized colonies.

“The party has decided to cancel the rally to show solidarity with the blast victims. The new date will be announced later,” Delhi Congress president J.P. Agarwal told IANS.

Eyeing the upcoming Delhi assembly elections, the party was looking forward to the rally hoping to highlight the regularisation of unauthorised colonies in the capital as one of the biggest achievements of the Sheila Dikshit government.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) had organised a rally at the same venue on the same issue a couple of weeks ago.
