Sonia says no victory parties or birthday celebrationsDecember 9th, 2008 - 6:24 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Dec 9 (IANS) The day after her party won three of five state assembly elections, Congress president Sonia Gandhi Tuesday decided not to celebrate her 62nd birthday and also asked party workers to exercise restraint in view of the Mumbai terror attack. “Party president Sonia Gandhi has decided not to celebrate her birthday. She has asked party workers not to gather at 10 Janpath for any kind of celebrations. This has been decided as a tribute to the victims of the terror attack,” said Tom Vadakkan, media secretary of the Congress party.
“There will not be any victory celebrations either and this has been decided because Congress shares the pain of all those who lost their loved ones in the horrifying attack,” Vadakkan told IANS.
On Monday, the Congress won the assembly elections in Delhi, Rajasthan and Mizoram while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained power in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
