Aizawl, Nov 28 (IANS) Congress party president Sonia Gandhi Friday pledged to set up a corruption free government in Mizoram if the Congress is voted to power in the Dec 2 elections to the state assembly.”This is a time for change in Mizoram. Whenever the Congress remained out of power, people suffered most and corruption went to its endemic proportion,” Gandhi said at an election rally.
Gandhi addressed two public rallies at Kolasib and Lunglei in southern part of the state.
“This is a time to tell the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) enough is enough and ask them where the billions of (rupees in) central funds have gone,” she said amid thunderous cheers.
“During the rule of MNF, the unemployment problem has increased, no roads, no infrastructure and basic amenities.”
“The MNF government has siphoned crores (millions) of money given by the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government for the state,” the Congress president said.
Accusing the MNF government of neglecting the healthcare sector, Gandhi said that financial assistance to the tune of Rs.1.25 billion meant for the families, affected by famine caused by bamboo flowering never reached them.
