New Delhi, March 14 (IANS) A 24-year-old unemployed man beheaded his father and chopped the body to gain “immortality and spiritual powers”. The man has been arrested, the police said Friday. Jitendra Singh was Friday booked for murdering his father Kartar Singh, a 65-year-old retired railway official, at their Nabi Karim house in old Delhi.

According to the police, Jitendra Thursday afternoon beheaded his father with a sharp knife and then chopped the body. He wrapped the head in a black cloth and placed it near an idol in the house.

When he was taken to the police station, he started screaming and crying. He told the police that he had been “directed by god in his dream” to sacrifice his father.

The crime was discovered by his sister, Guddoo, Friday morning. Guddoo, who lives nearby, came to meet her father and brother, and saw the decapitated and chopped body of her father.

She screamed for help and then fainted. Bunty, her neighbour, called the police. The police have sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Jitendra, whose wife had deserted him, was living with his father while his mother was staying with his elder brother nearby. His three sisters were married.

During interrogation, Jitendra confessed to killing his father.

“We don’t know the motive but he is continuously saying that he had done it to gain immortality and spiritual powers,” the official added.
