Snow and rain to lash Kashmir Valley
November 10th, 2011 - 2:10 pm ICT by IANSSrinagar, Nov 10 (IANS) The minimum temperature slipped three degrees below normal in summer capital Srinagar Thursday, but the weather office has forecast fair weather across the Kashmir Valley Friday onwards.
“Moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea continues over the Valley today. A persisting Western Disturbance is still active here. Because of these conditions, rain in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches will continue to occur during the next 24 hours in the Valley,” Sonam Lotus, director of the local meteorological office, told IANS.
“The weather will start improving from tomorrow afternoon onwards.”
The minimum temperature was 4.8 degrees Celsius Thursday, nearly three degrees below normal.
“It was minus 1.8 degrees in the ski resort of Gulmarg while the south Kashmir Pahalgam hill station recorded a minimum of 4.4 degrees,” said another official at the weather office.
Chilly winds blowing from the snowclad mountains into the Valley have increased the cold in the hinterland.
“It is definitely colder than one would otherwise experience during this time of the season. Water flowing from the taps is nearly ice cold,” said Ali Muhammad, 64, a resident of central Kashmir’s Badgam district.
