SNDT Women’s University gets new vice chancellor

Mumbai, May 10 (IANS) Vasudha Kamat was Tuesday appointed the vice chancellor of the SNDT Women’s University here, a statement said.

She was appointed by Maharashtra Governor K. Sankaranarayanan in his capacity as the chancellor of the universities in the state, the statement from the Raj Bhavan said.

Kamat was the joint director of the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. She succeeds Chandra Krishnamurthi, whose term ended March 1.

Kamat has been appointed for a five-year term.

An alumnus of the same varsity, Kamat obtained her Masters in Sociology degree in 1976 and her Ph.D. in Education in 1981.

She started her career as a lecturer in Gokhale Education Society’s College of Education, Sangamner (in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district) and later joined the SNDT Women’s University in 1983 in a similar capacity.
