Skoda starts production of entry-level sedan Rapid
October 7th, 2011 - 7:18 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Oct 7 (IANS) Vokswagen Group company SkodaAuto Friday began production of its entry level sedan - Rapid - at its Chakan plant near Pune.
“Today is the official start of production for the Indian variant of our new Rapid compact saloon,” Skoda Auto chairman Winfried Vahland said in a statement.
According to Vahland, the five-seater car would be introduced in the market shortly. “It is an attractive car with lots of space and room for five people.”
The vehicle would be launched with diesel and petrol engine variants.
The company further said the commencement of production was in line with its growth strategy to double global sales by 2018.
“The car would be entirely manufactured in India. It will be positioned at the entry level of the country’s mid-sized sedan segment,” said the company.
