Six women dead in boat capsize
March 4th, 2011 - 4:14 pm ICT by IANSMau (Uttar Pradesh), March 4 (IANS) Six women labourers drowned while seven were rescued when a boat capsized in Tons river in this Uttar Pradesh district Friday, police said.
The accident took place Friday afternoon, when the boat carrying 13 women labourers — all natives of Ghazipur district — lost balance midstream and capsized.
“While six bodies have been fished out, the seven women rescued with the help of locals are being treated at a hospital. They are out of danger,” Superintendent of Police Onkar Singh told reporters in Mau, some 250 km from state capital Lucknow.
“All the women were going to Sarai Lakhansi town in Mau for their daily work,” he added.
