Six units employing child labourers sealed, 20 held
March 24th, 2011 - 7:56 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 24 (IANS) Raids were conducted on seven factories employing child labourers, and Delhi Police sealed six of them and arrested 20 employers, an NGO said Thursday.
According to a statement by the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), a child rights NGO which assisted the police in the raids, although no children were found working in the factories, “evidences” of child labour were found.
“There were evidences of children working in the factory like shirts and pants of young children. On the basis of the evidences, the sub-divisional magistrate ordered the factories to be sealed and more than 20 employers were arrested,” R.S Chaurasia, chairman of BBA, said.
The raids were conducted on the directions of the Delhi High Court, it added.
However, the child workers have been identified and action has been initiated to rescue them, the NGO said.
“The sealing of the factories also passed a message to the people about the outcome of employing children. There should be continuous rescue operations so that child labour is eliminated totally from Delhi,” Chaurasia said.
