Six of family killed in Uttar Pradesh road accident

Lucknow, May 2 (IANS) Six members of a family, including three children and two women, were killed when the car they were travelling in collided with another vehicle in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh in the early hours Saturday, police said.
Eleven members of a family were returning from a marriage in their Wagon R when it collided head-on with another vehicle in the Lohra Mau locality of the district at around 3 a.m.

“The family was returning after attending a marriage when the accident took place on the Lucknow-Varanasi highway. Three children and two women died on the spot and the other victim, the male who was driving the vehicle succumbed in the hospital,” Inspector S.K. Gangwar of Kotwali Dehat police station informed IANS by phone.

Three other people, including two women, were critically injured and were referred to Lucknow for treatment.

“We are clueless about what vehicle they collided with, but the impact hints it could have been a truck. We are making efforts to trace it,” he said.

Two other children, who were in the car, received minor injuries and were discharged after treatment from the hospital.
