Six months’ jail for three Chinese nationals
April 20th, 2011 - 11:47 pm ICT by IANSBahraich (Uttar Pradesh), April 20 (IANS) A local court Wednesday awarded six months’ imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs.50,000 each, to three Chinese nationals for straying into India’s Uttar Pradesh state from Nepal.
Xue Dongli, Chen Rong and Yang Liu Yang, a woman, were part of a team from Chinese telecom company Huawei engaged in installation of cellphone towers in Nepal.
The convicts entered India from Rupaidiha, about 45 km from here.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Satya Prakash Dwivedi said the three months’ period spent by the Chinese nationals in jail during the trial would be treated as part of the sentence.
In the event of non-payment of the fine, the convicts would have to undergo an additional imprisonment of six months, the order said.
The convicts were carrying out a survey in Nepalganj district of Nepal when they accidentally entered India.
The were held by Indian border guards and charged with intrusion into the Indian border and even suspected of spying.
