December 26th, 2011 - 10:37 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Dec 26 (IANS) Six Maoist rebels were arrested Monday in Chhattisgarh’s violence-hit Bastar region, police said.
The arrests were made from a thickly forested area of Awapalli in Bijapur district, some 500 km south of Raipur.
Officials at police headquarters here said that a contingent of District Force (DF) tracked down the six Maoists in a well coordinated operation that ended late Monday evening. The arrested Maoists had been involved in several attacks on police and civilians in Bijapur district since June 2005.
Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, which is spread out over 40,000 sq km, is considered a hotbed of Maoists where the rebels run a parallel administration in the interiors since late 1980s.
