Six land mafia members arrested in Haryana
November 27th, 2011 - 11:04 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Nov 27 (IANS) Tightening the noose around the land mafia in the state, the Haryana Police have arrested six people from Karnal for forging documents and using muscle power to get disputed properties vacated, a police spokesman said here Sunday.
He said that the land mafia used to get sale agreements prepared in the name of their near and dear ones for disputed properties and used to get it vacated from the occupants by using muscle power or used to extort money from them.
Police came to know about the modus operandi of the land mafia following a complaint recently at Karnal’s Ram Nagar police station.
All six people arrested belonged to Karnal and nearby areas, the spokesman said.
In one case, the mafia got a fake will prepared to occupy a clinic in Karnal, 130 km from Chandigarh.
During interrogation, the accused told the police that they dealt in properties and used to get fake papers made, especially in cases where the original owner had died or were unknown.
