Six Kumbh pilgrims killed in accident
March 29th, 2010 - 3:34 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, March 29 (IANS) At least six pilgrims on their way to the Kumbh fair in Haridwar were killed and 20 injured when a truck hit their bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district Monday, police said.
“The accident took place in Kathauli town,” a police official told reporters in Muzaffarnagar, about 350 km from Lucknow.
“The truck laden with concrete overturned on the roadways bus of the Meerut depot, killing six people on the spot. Of the 20 injured in the accident, the condition of five-six passengers is critical. All those injured are being treated in a hospital,” he added.
The truck’s driver managed to escape.
