Six killed in Uttar Pradesh road accident
August 30th, 2010 - 11:22 pm ICT by IANSKanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Aug 30 (IANS) Six people, including two women and a child, were killed Monday when the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a speeding truck in this Uttar Pradesh district, police said.
Nine people were also injured in the accident, which took place along the Kanpur-Hamirpur road when the speeding truck laden with iron rods rammed into the tempo that carried passengers from the Ghatampur area.
“While five people died on the spot, another died on way to hospital. The nine other passengers who were injured in the accident are being treated at a hospital. The condition of all the nine is stated to be serious,” Police Inspector K.R. Dohre told reporters in the city, some 80 km from Lucknow.
“Preliminary investigations reveal the truck’s driver was at fault. Though the driver tried to escape from the accident site, locals managed to catch him and handed him to us,” he added.
