Six held for over 100 car thefts in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS) Six people, allegedly involved in over 100 car thefts in the national capital region, have been arrested, police said Tuesday.
Sleuths of Delhi Police’s Special Cell arrested Sonu Pathak, Raju, Hitler Vishaila, Shakir, Mujir and Sangeet Sharma from three different locations in the capital in the last week.

Pathak and Raju were arrested from near the Ambedkar Bus Terminal Thursday when they were traveling in a stolen Tata Indica car. Shakir and Hitler were nabbed same day near the Jama Masjid when they were going in another stolen Tata Indica car, and Mujir and Sangeet were arrested Friday from Subhash Marg near the Jama Masjid.

The police said 16 stolen cars, a drill machine, a steering lock and a large number of car opening equipments were recovered from them.

“Mujir, Shakir and Raju were the masterminds of the gang. They used to pick up cars from Delhi, Meerut and Agra, change the chassis and engine numbers of the stolen cars and sell them off,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Alok Kumar.

“They were wanted in over 100 theft cases,” he added.
