Six held for killing Kolkata varsity official
July 29th, 2011 - 7:03 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, July 29 (IANS) Five students and one teacher of Rabindra Bharati University were arrested Friday for beating to death a non-teaching staff after a scuffle over parking motorcycles, police said.
Basudeb Nandi, 59, was beaten to death by the group after a quarrel broke out between them over parking of motorcycles in the non-parking area of the university campus here.
He died on his way to hospital, a police officer said.
The state’s Higher Education Minister Bratya Basu condemned the incident.
“The incident is pathetic. It is a shame that a student is perpetuating such kind of incidents. I offer my condolences to Nandi’s family,” Basu said.
