Six from Bihar held with fake Indian currency in Delhi
January 19th, 2010 - 11:23 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS) Six people, including three women, have been arrested here with fake Indian currency worth the nominal value of Rs.320,000, police said Tuesday.
Aas Mohammad, 28, Nanhe Miyan, 22, Shaqil, 22, Noor Nisha, 26, Shahina Khatoon, 22, and Noor Jahan, 30, were arrested Monday by the Special Operations Squad of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch.
All of them are natives of Motihari in Bihar and were arrested from Jamia Nagar in southeast Delhi.
“The women would approach vendors and shopkeepers to use the counterfeit notes of Rs.1,000 or Rs.500 denomination for purchasing small items of 100 rupees value. The male gang members would follow their female counterparts in order to assist them if any suspicion arose,” said a police official.
“The gang has circulated fake Indian currency of Rs.2 million so far in Delhi and its surrounding areas,” the officer added.
