Kolkata, Sep 18 (IANS) Six people died in three road accidents in West Bengal Thursday, the police said.The three road accidents took place at Shyambazaar area in south Kolkata, Kharagpur town in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district and Marishda town in East Midnapore district.
“An unidentified old woman was run over by a private bus at Shyambazaar Thursday afternoon. The driver of the bus is absconding,” an official at police control room at Lalbazar - the city police headquarters told IANS.
The same day, two passengers of an autorickshaw died and two were seriously injured at Kharagpur after the speeding vehicle lost balance and turned turtle.
“Two people, including a woman, died and two were hospitalised with serious injuries after the autorickshaw, they were travelling in, turned turtle. The accident was a result of rash driving. We have arrested the driver,” said an officer at Kharagpur town police station.
In another incident, three people died and seven were injured at Marishda after a van and a mini truck collided Thursday.
“The truck was coming from the opposite direction. It lost control and hit the van, killing three passengers and injuring seven. The truck driver fled before police reached the spot,” an officer at Marishda police station said.
According to district sources, there were about 15 passengers in the van.
