June 26th, 2011 - 2:21 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, June 26 (IANS) With help from nine others, a man in Punjab murdered his brother-in-law for marrying his sister, police said Sunday, calling it an “honour killing”.
Pardeep alias Sonu of Nawanshahar town, around 100 km from here, was killed for marrying Balwinder Kaur, who belonged to a different caste, in February this year, a police official said.
Around 10 people, including Balwinder’s brother, attacked Sonu with sharp-edged weapons at his house June 22. He died in a Chandigarh hospital.
“Balwinder’s brother was against the marriage. So he killed Sonu for the family’s ‘honour’,” he added. One man has been arrested for the crime.
