Srinagar, Jan 23 (IANS) The Jammu and Kashmir Police Monday wrapped up a five-day training programme to learn how to deal with mobs with skill, tact and compassion.

The training was conducted by an expert who taught at Harvard University.

“To upgrade professional ethics, soft skills and responsiveness of its personnel, police organised a workshop on professional ethics, soft skills and service mindset,” Inspector General of Police S.M. Sahai said.

The training was conducted by Jim Tull, who has taught executive education at Harvard and delivers such programmes around the world, he said.

“The purpose of the training was to introduce soft skills such as negotiation and communication, listening skills, ethics and professional conduct based on a public service mindset.

“The training also covered ethics in policing and applying soft skills in the context of community-based policing,” a police press release said.

About 50 officers from all the districts of the Kashmir Valley, including superintendents, deputy superintendents and station house officers, attended the programme.

“These officers have been trained… They will work at the field training units and conduct similar sessions in all districts,” the statement said.

A total of 210 people were killed in the valley during the summer unrest of 2010 in clashes between mobs and security forces here.
