Shimla gets season’s first snowfall

Shimla, Jan 4 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla witnessed the season’s first snowfall Wednesday evening, pushing down the mercury by several notches.
“Shimla and its nearby areas received snowfall that started late in the evening,” Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office here, told IANS.
Nearby places like Kufri and Narkanda have been experiencing moderate snowfall, he said. Manali too received moderate snow.
He said the town’s commercial centre the Mall Road, the historic Ridge, the US Club and Jakhu hills received snowfall and lower areas of the town experienced rain.
“High-altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, Kinnaur and Shimla districts have been experiencing moderate to heavy snow since Wednesday morning,” the official said.
The Met has forecast snow and rain across state till Friday.
