Manmohan Singh Shimla, Jan 11 (IANS) Fresh snowfall Wednesday evening turned Shimla hill station more picturesque.

“Only Shimla and its nearby areas experienced snowfall. But it was a light one and was mainly due to local thundery developments,” Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office here, told IANS.

The minimum temperature of Shimla was 0.9 degree Celsius, while the maximum was 6.5 degrees.

According to Singh, about four cm of snow was recorded in Shimla.

The weather was mainly dry in the rest of the state, he added.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest town in the state with a low of minus 15.4 degrees Celsius, while it was minus 6.6 degrees in Manali, minus 7.7 in Kalpa in Kinnaur district and 2.5 degrees in Dharamsala.

The Met office said the state is in line for more snow this weekend.

According to it, a fresh western disturbance as an upper air system is likely to affect the western Himalayan region from Jan 14.

“There are chances of widespread rain and snow in the state Jan 15,” Singh said.
