Shimla, April 9 (IANS) Various social organisations here celebrated and distributed sweets among people Saturday after social activist Anna Hazare ended his 97-hour fast to press for a stringent anti-graft law.

Sushil Tanwar, president of Ashadeep, an NGO, told IANS that the government accepting Hazare’s demand for inclusion of the civil society in drafting the stringent Lokpal (Ombudsman) Bill was a victory of the common man.

“It’s just a beginning of struggle. A mass movement should also be carried in the case of women reservation bill and other bills that have been put in the cold storage,” the wheelchair-bound Tanwar said.

The NGO, that started a signature campaign to support the veteran Gandhian, has collected more than 2,500 signatures.

“We will send the posters signed by the supporters to Hazare,” he added.

Social activist and Padma Shri awardee Kshama Metre said the movement demonstrated the strength of people’s power.

“Finally, people will have their say against corruption,” said Metre, who is heading the Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development (CORD), which is working for the upliftment of rural women in Dharamsala.
