New Delhi, Sep 2 (IANS) The Congress Friday appointed former union minister Shankarsinh Vaghela as chairperson of the party’s campaign committee for the Gujarat assembly polls due next year.
The appointment of Vaghela, a former Gujarat chief minister, was approved by party chief Sonia Gandhi, who is recuperating abroad after a surgery.
?Congress president Smt Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal for appointing Shri Shankarsinh Vaghela as chairman of the campaign committee for the Gujarat assembly election - 2012,? a statement issued by Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said.
Congress sources said the party is striving to put up a good show in the assembly polls after a string of electoral losses in the state where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been in power since 1995, with Chief Minister Narendra Modi at the helm since 2001.
