Several loopholes in Lokpal bill, says Left
December 22nd, 2011 - 7:41 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 22 (IANS) Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury Thursday questioned government’s preparation before bringing the Lokpal bill, saying that there were several loopholes in the bill.
“We don’t know if adequate homework has been done by government before bringing the Lokpal bill,” Yechury told reporters here.
The Left leader pointed out that the government wanted to make it a statutory body and a constitutional amendment would need to be moved before the Lokpal bill is passed. He also pointed out that it had ramifications for the federal structure of the country since it includes Lokayuktas for the states as well.
His party colleague and Lok Sabha member Basudeb Acharia said that as the bill was being introduced as a fresh bill, many members even suggested sending it to a parliamentary standing committee.
A fresh version of the Lokpal bill, along with a constitutional amendment bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha Thursday.
