Seven years in prison for Nigerian who raped Australian
July 9th, 2010 - 7:29 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, July 9 (IANS) A Goa court Friday sentenced a Nigerian national to seven years imprisonment for raping a 28-year-old Australian woman in April this year.
The victim had accused Obi Okofur, 28, of raping her at a guest house at a beach resort village at Canacona, about 90 km from here, after spiking her drinks while they were partying together.
The case was handed over to the Crime Branch for investigation because the victim was a foreign national.
Last month, Obi was admitted to a mental hospital after prison authorities claimed that he had allegedly injured himself in a sudden bout of violence, when he was in judicial custody at the Sada jail in Vasco, about 35 km from here.
