Seven Taliban killed, 18 held in Afghanistan

Kabul, Feb 12 (IANS) Seven Taliban militants have been killed, two injured and 18 detained as suspects since Saturday in joint operations launched by the Afghan forces backed by NATO-led coalition troops, the Afghan interior ministry said Sunday.
“Afghan police, army and coalition forces launched nine joint operations in Kabul, Helmand, Uruzgan, Ghazni, Khost, Paktia and Herat provinces over the past 24 hours,” Xinhua reported quoting an official statement.
“As a result of these operations, seven armed insurgents were killed, two wounded and 18 others were arrested,”it said.
The Taliban were yet to make comment on the incident.
