West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma said the joint forces raided two hideouts of the Left wing extremists, arresting two from Talpukur in Belpahari and five others from Madhupur in Salboni area.
A large cache of firearms, ammunition, improvised explosive devices and traditional weapons were recovered from the two spots, he said.
The body of a suspected Maoist was found from Talpukur.
“It seems he died in a police shootout,” a police source said.
Meanwhile, a police constable, suspected to have been abducted by Maoist guerrillas during violent attacks on two camps of the security forces in Bankura district Monday night, returned to a police station Wednesday morning.
“We don’t know yet any details about where he was for the last two days. We will speak to him soon,” Bankura Superintendent of Police Bishal Garg told IANS.
