Seven passengers killed as bus falls into pit
April 6th, 2011 - 11:37 pm ICT by IANSSaharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), April 6 (IANS) At least seven passengers were killed and 33 injured when an Uttar Pradesh government-owned bus in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a deep pit here Wednesday evening, police said.
The bus of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) fell into the pit in Deoband town. Most of the passengers were residents of Saharanpur district.
“Seven passengers have died till now. The injured are being treated in different hospitals of Muzaffarnagar and Saharanpur districts,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajai Kumar told reporters in Saharanpur, some 550 km from Lucknow.
“The condition of five victims is stated to be serious,” he added.
