Kurukshetra (Haryana), March 31 (IANS) The recovery of seven bodies from a car in an irrigation canal in Haryana Monday has left the state police baffled. So far 18 unidentified bodies have been recovered from the same canal. The police had in the past two days recovered 11 bodies from the canal.

The seven bodies recovered from the car are suspected to be of Pehowa town-based commission agent Mam Chand and his family, including children, who committed suicide earlier March in a family pact.

Though Kurukshetra police officials say that they are still waiting for post-mortem examination report to confirm that these belonged to the family, at least 21 commission agents and businessmen in Pehowa were Monday booked by the police on charges of abetment to suicide.

The police here are still trying to locate two more members of the family as nine members had committed suicide March 16. The family was under heavy debt from other businessmen.

The police recovered a suicide note from the family’s house. The names of 21 prominent businessmen of the town, 30 km from here, were written on the walls of their house.
