Set up visa centre at Lucknow, British envoy urged
March 31st, 2011 - 5:49 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, March 31 (IANS) Corporate representatives and business leaders have urged British High Commissioner Richard Stagg to set up a visa centre in Lucknow, an official Thursday.
An interactive session of the visiting diplomat with representatives of the industry was arranged at the local office of Indian IT giant Tata Consultancy Service here Wednesday.
While none had the statistics, the industry representatives drew the British envoy’s attention to the fact that a large number of visa applications for Britain were made by people belonging to Uttar Pradesh.
Later, Stagg called on Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh and Director General of Police Karamveer Singh, a TCS official said.
While Stagg could not get an appointment with Chief Minister Mayawati, he held an informal meeting with Governor B.L. Joshi at a dinner thrown by Khalid Hamid, an Indian-born British national and member of the House of Lords who has been honoured with Padma Bhushan.
