New Delhi, May 4 (IANS) Five persons, including a servant who was hired without police verification, were arrested for looting cash and goods worth over Rs.20 lakh from a house here, police said Wednesday. One person is on the run and untraced.

Sanjay Mukhiya, 19, was hired by a family in west Delhi’s Maurya Enclave last week, where Umesh and Suraj Mukhiya, both 19, had earlier worked as domestic helps. Ranjeet Kumar, 22, a juvenile, and Pradeep Yadav, 25, who is now on the run, were the three other men involved in the robbery.

“The incident took place Tuesday when the six entered the house and tied up the owner, Veena Manchanda, 48, who was alone at the time of the incident,” a police officer said.

Pradeep was the kingpin of the gang. He had a good rapport with the family, and Sanjay, Suraj and Umesh had got the job because of his reference, police said.

According to police, Sanjay and Umesh were arrested from Paharganj area of central Delhi Tuesday around 7 p.m. Based on their interrogation, Ranjeet, Suraj and the juvenile were apprehended from Nangloi in west Delhi a few hours later.

“The police have recovered cash worth Rs.7.26 lakh, jewellery worth Rs.13.25 lakh and electronic goods like laptops, camera and mobile phones,” the officer added.
