Senior held for ragging girl student in Chhattisgarh
September 1st, 2009 - 11:26 am ICT by IANSRaipur, Sep 1 (IANS) A student of the Government Engineering College here has been arrested for ragging his junior. He had asked the girl to hug him, police said Tuesday.
Praveen Mishra, a seventh semester student of Mechanical Engineering, was held Monday from his college in Shej Bahar area on the outskirts of Raipur after a fifth semester computer science engineering student reported ragging.
“The student has a history of misbehaving with juniors. he was arrested for ragging the girl student and has been put in jail,” police station in-charge R.C. Lahri told IANS.
He said Praveen forcibly stopped the girl student Monday and asked her to follow his instructions. Subsequently, she filed a complaint with the police.
A police officer said Praveen had asked the girl to hug him and do it daily.
Meanwhile, college authorities are investigating the matter on a directive by the college’s anti-ragging committee which was set up early this year on instructions of the state government.
