Senior cop arrested in Jharkhand
September 2nd, 2009 - 11:59 am ICT by IANSRanchi, Sep 2 (IANS) The Deputy Commissioner of Police of Sahebganj district of Jharkhand has been arrested for not appointing a peon as ordered by the court, police said Wednesday.
The Jharkhand High Court had Tuesday directed Sahebganj Superintendent of Police (SP) to arrest DCP K. Ravi Kumar on charges of contempt of court. Kumar was arrested Tuesday night. He will be produced in the court Wednesday.
“The Sahebganj Superintendent of Police has informed the court regarding compliance of order and the Deputy Commissioner has been arrested and will be produced in the court,” spokesperson of Jharkhand Police S.N. Pradhan said.
In June 2007, the high court had directed Kumar to appoint a peon within three months. However, he did not do so even after two years of the order.
