New Delhi, Aug 22 (IANS) India opener Virender Sehwag and fast bowler Ishant Sharma have been ruled out of the One-day series against England.
Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane and Jharkhand speedster Varun Aaron will replace them for the one-off Twenty20 Aug 31 and five ODIs beginning Sep 3.
Sehwag missed the series against West Indies and the first two Tests against England because of surgery on his right shoulder. He joined the team before the third Test at Edgbaston, but has struggled with the bat.
“Sehwag suffered from labyrinthithis of the left ear July 24. Although his condition has improved he continues to experience headaches. An ENT specialist, who was consulted for the same has said that he will take two more weeks to recover completely,” BCCI said in a statement.
“Sehwag has made good progress since the surgery on his right shoulder. He will be continuing rehabilitation to build up his throwing and bowling fitness.”
Ishant sustained a ligament injury in his left ankle during the third Test.
“He will need to undergo a course of intensive rehabilitation and training to prevent recurrence of the pain in his left ankle.”
Rahane performed well during the Emerging Players tournament in Australia and cracked two centuries. He has been a prolific scorer in the domestic circuit as well with an average of 67.72 in first-class cricket.
Aaron has regularly clocked over 140kmph and in his recent first-class appearances and took six wickets against the Australian Institute of Sport.
