Security forces unearth Maoist arms dump in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Sep 11 (IANS) Security forces Tuesday stumbled upon a huge cache of arms and ammunition in a forested area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district, police said.

The arms and ammunition, which were found near Matikeda area of the district, were recovered jointly by paramilitary forces and local police personnel during a combing operation, a senior district police officer told IANS.

The arms and ammunition recovered from the site included eight rifles, one air gun, 79 detonators, five gelatin sticks, three wire bundles, five audio cassettes and six Maoist flags.

Maoists are active in more than half of Odisha’s 30 districts. The district of Kandhamal, about 200 km from here, is considered their stronghold.
