Secretary general underlines commitment to UN reforms

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) Lauding India as a leading voice in the developing world and a growing economic power, UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon Friday underlined his commitment to the UN reforms and hoped that New Delhi will play a bigger role on the world stage.”I was only a year old when India became a UN member state and it is truly impressive how much this country has achieved since then as a leading voice in the developing world, as a long established democracy and a growing economic power,” Ban told reporters here after talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Pratibha Patil.

Lavishing praise on India’s contribution to UN peacekeeping operations around the world, he said he was sure India would continue to advance peace and stability in the region and the world.
