Sebastian Coe launches Olympic bicycles
December 11th, 2011 - 9:43 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, Dec 11 (IANS) Sebastian Coe, the chairman of the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympic Games Organising Committee, launched a set of Olympic bicycles Sunday at the British Embassy in Beijing, highlighting the importance of environmentally green and sustainable Games.
The four bicycles, branded with the slogan “Green Games Green Future” in Chinese characters, are designed to encourage embassy staff to take a low carbon approach to travelling around the city for official business, Xinhua reported.
The green coloured bikes also symbolize Britain’s commitment to tackling climate change domestically, and demonstrate Britain’s commitment to make the London Games truly green and sustainable.
Coe expressed hope that the bicycles will become a popular form of transport for residents and visitors to the Games next July.
“These Olympic bicycles are a simple but effective way to show our commitment to hosting sustainable Games. I am also pleased to be able to share with our Chinese partners the great progress we are making in our preparations and our excitement at hosting an event that the world can be proud of,” Coe said.
Coe was in Beijing to attend the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) General Assembly.
