Scorching day in Delhi, no respite ahead (Lead)
June 7th, 2011 - 9:23 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 7 (IANS) Delhiites reeled under a blazing sun Tuesday, with the maximum temperature recorded four notches above the average at 43.6 degrees Celsius, and hot, dry winds blowing throughout the day. The weather office said there will be no respite Wednesday as well.
“The skies will remain clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 42 and 30 degrees Celsius,” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Tuesday’s minimum temperature was 29.6 degrees, two notches above average, and the humidity levels wavered between a high of 54 and a low of 27 percent.
The heat forced the people to remain indoors and roads were deserted, especially in the afternoon.
Conditions were no better Monday when the city witnessed a maximum temperature of 43.5 degrees Celsius, three notches above average for this time of the season.
