School admissions to go on during summer break
May 6th, 2011 - 7:18 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 6 (IANS) The Delhi government Friday said the process of school admissions this year will continue even during the summer vacations to ensure that more students are enrolled.
“The admission process in schools will continue even during the summer vacations to ensure that each and every child is granted admission in schools and the process would be more simple and transparent,” state Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said.
Lovely said following the Right to Education Act (RTE) provisions, children will be given admission throughout the year.
“Even if a child is over age, he or she should be admitted in appropriate class,” he added.
Speaking about admissions for the economically weaker section (EWS) category, Lovely said: ” A list of public schools is being prepared by all deputy directors to identify where seats under EWS category are vacant.
“Seats belonging to EWS category would be fulfilled by the recommendations of Directorate of Education according to applications received,” Lovely said.
As per the Right to Education Act, 25 percent seats have been reserved for students belonging to poorer sections of the society.
Around 943 schools are run under the Directorate of Education in which about 700 schools are senior secondary, 200 secondary schools and 40 are middle schools.
