Scheme for empowering adolescent girls launched

New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS) The women and child development ministry Friday launched the Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls (RGSEAG-SABLA).
The scheme was unveiled by Home Minister P. Chidambaram.
The launch of the programme was especially timed to commemorate the 93rd birth anniversary of late prime minister Indira Gandhi.
To be implemented in 200 districts across the country initially on a pilot basis, the scheme aims at improving the nutritional and health standards of adolescent girls, as well as improve their life and vocational skills.
