Scheduled caste farmer burnt alive in Madhya Pradesh
September 22nd, 2011 - 5:57 pm ICT by IANSBhopal, Sep 22 (IANS) A 50-year-old Scheduled Caste farmer, who suffered 90 percent burns allegedly in an attack by a property dealer, died at the Hamida Hospital in this Madhya Pradesh capital city Thursday, police said.
In his dying statement, Sumer Singh Ahirwar has accused seven people of setting him on fire Wednesday at Bargeda village, 15 km from Bhopal, village police station chief G.S. Chouhan said.
Police have lodged a case against Dilip Seth Soni, Vinod Malwani, Mahendra Singh Jath, Karulal, Brijesh Daangi, Namada Prasad and Padam Daangi.
They are yet to be arrested.
According to Bhopal district Additional Superintendent of Police Prashat Khare, Sumer had sold a piece of land through a property dealer for Rs.8.5 lakh. After the registry, the dealer recently gave Rs.3 lakh to Sumer.
Sumer went to the dealer’s house to demand the balance Rs.5.5 lakh Wednesday. The dealer told him that he would be paid in the evening and offered to drop him home, police said.
After reaching Sumer’s village, the dealer and six others are alleged to have set him on fire.
Some villagers brought him to hospital.
