New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS) A Delhi court Friday extended the judicial custody of cash-for-votes scam accused Sanjeev Saxena and Suhail Hindustani till Aug 18.
Special Judge Sangeeta Dhingra extended to custody of Saxena, a former private secretary to expelled Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh and Hindustani, a former member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth wing, by 14 days. Their present spell of custody expired Friday.
Meanwhile, Saxena moved his bail application before the court on the grounds that his custody is no more required.
“The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) is no more interrogating me. My custody is not required. Even after been released, I will be available as and when required by the probe agency,” the application stated.
The court, posted the application for further hearing Aug 18.
Slammed by the Supreme Court for a shoddy probe into the cash-for-votes scam, Delhi Police first arrested Saxena July 17. Hindustani was arrested July 20.
The duo had been booked for various offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the police said.
The case was registered in 2009 on the recommendation of a parliamentary panel which had probed the scam dating back to July 2008.
On July 22, 2008, three BJP MPs waved wads of currency notes on the floor of the Lok Sabha ahead of the trust vote sought by the United Progressive Alliance-I government, alleging they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government.
The vote was called after the Left parties withdrew support over the India-US nuclear agreement.
