Sanjay Dutt sings for Sajid-Wajid’s ‘Chatur Singh…’
February 8th, 2009 - 8:16 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Mumbai, Feb 8 (IANS) After making his debut as a singer a decade ago with “Aye Shivani” in “Khoobsurat” and lending his vocals to a dozen odd songs since then, the star has sung two songs for his upcoming film “Chatur Singh Two Star”.
Sajid-Wajid have composed the music of the film while Ajay Chandok, with whom Sanjay has worked earlier in “Nehlle Pe Dehlla”, is directing it.
“Yes, Sanjay Dutt has sung for the film. These are two different versions of the title track. Sajid-Wajid have given extraordinary music for the film, especially these two songs, and I can’t wait to begin shooting for them,” Chandok told IANS.
He is also getting ready with the release of his two other films - “Kisse Pyaar Karoon” and “Khallballi - Fun Unlimited”.
Talking about the two versions of the song, Wajid said: “While one of the versions is a rap number with an underground feel to it, the other is a full on film version with dialogues incorporated in it. Both versions are very nice and carry an international appeal,” said Wajid.
Probe him about the uniqueness of Sanjay’s rendition, wajid said: “I can confidently state that for the first time, audience will acknowledge that Sanjay Dutt has sung like a playback singer. He has his ’sur’ in place and is bang on with his rendition. You will get to know about this yourself once you hear it.”
Sanjay has sung a dozen odd songs before ‘Chatur Singh Two Star’, most notable being “Aye Shivani” (”Khoobsurat”], “Tez dhaar” (”Musafir”) and “Rama re” and “Chhod na re” (”Kaante”).
Considering the fact that “Chatur Singh Two Star” is a comedy, Wajid admits that it’s a difficult task to experiment much with the music.
“Any other genre and you can play around with the setting and arrangements, but one has to work extra hard to make one song appear different from another when it comes to comedy genre. This is where Sanjay’s interest in a project comes into picture. The rap version especially was quite difficult to sing, but it’s his effort that makes it stand out. It’s a good new age song,” said Wajid.
Starring Amisha Patel as the leading lady opposite Sanjay, “Chatur Singh Two Star” also sees Gulshan Grover, Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik and Suresh Menon in key roles.
Produced by Mohammed Aslam, the film is aiming for a May-June release.
