Bhubaneswar, March 12 (IANS) Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik Saturday sculpted a image on the beach in Orissa’s Puri town as a tribute to the hundreds of people who lost their lives in the massive earthquake that rocked Japan and the tsunami that followed.

Pattnaik created an image of sea waves, with a floating face using about eight tonnes of sand. The image also bears a message “Help the tsunami victims”.

Scores of people including residents, domestic and foreign tourists visited the site of the sculpture on the golden sea beach the artist created in about four hours with the help of the students of his Golden Sand Art Institute.

The visitors also offered floral tribute to the victims at the image, Pattnaik, who is an international acclaimed artist and has won several championships across the globe in the past for his art told IANS over phone from Puri, about 56 km from Bhubaneswar.
